Dr. Hamid Claude Kantara, a Lebanese doctor from
Tripoli Lebanon was elected to City Council in League City, Texas a
suburb of Houston. Dr. Kantara is the first Lebanese emigrant to be
elected to City Council in Galveston County. Dr. Kantara emigrated from
Jounieh to Houston in 1985, became a U.S. Citizen in 1997 and was
elected to City Council on May 5th, 2001. Dr. Kantara is also the Vice
President of the Galveston County Young Republicans.
