Cremesti Title: "Stairway Down to Heaven" Comments: December 16, 2002, monday night, after midnight, moon-light shot of a stairway that leads down to the gorgeous beach of Point Dume in Malibu. I went out that night, with my buddy Luigi to capture the swell of a storm that was pounding southern California (major flooding in Santa Barbra - front page of the LA Times was a surfer paddling in the street!). Point Dume, which is my day-off destination for natural therapy , has many times put me in awe of its natural beauty, both over the water and under (I spearfish there)... That night was amazing. This stairway and fence did not look like this photo. Everything was silvery in the moonlight. But the 800 film with a 1 1/2 minute exposure was so sensitive that it captured the greenness of the grass, the brownness of the Earth and the blueness of the moon-light sky. The fluffy clouds are smeared because they were moving, being blown by a strong north wind. The sight of the long waves rollin in, in the moonlight, was awe-inspiring... Next day I was surfing those beautiful monsters... I didnt even feel cold... I experienced surf, sun, wind, and rain at one rare moment... Fujifilm Superia XTRA ISO 800 color film, 35 mm Rinekon lens, Canon tripod, cable release, Ricoh manual camera at f ~ 5.6. |
